Rovers hold Blades

Nick Montgomery hit a superb first-half goal but Sheffield United dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Tranmere.

Rovers made the brighter start but were denied through three smart saves by Steve Simonsen from Martin Devaney, Mark McCrystal and Lucas Akins.

United gradually warmed to their task and Rovers had keeper Owain Fon Williams to thank for excellent stops from close-range headers by Matt Lowton and Jordan Slew.

The deadlock was broken a minute before the break when Blades skipper Montgomery hit the back of the net with a cracker from 30 yards.

A header by Rovers substitute Mustafa Tiryaki was well held by Simonsen, but they eventually levelled in the 80th minute.

Joss Labadie made an immediate impact as a substitute when heading in David Buchanan's cross.
