For two consecutive games running, United opened up brightly and very attack-minded, but after an optimistic first 30 minutes, the Blades seemed to drop the tempo of their play and began to let Coventry back into it.
Strike duo Nick Blackman and John Cofie had contrasting nights, with Blackman looking the more threatening out of the two and, eventually, scoring the Blades’ only goal of the game.
Blackman was actually well supplemented with the arrival of Shaun Miller on 61 minutes, with the former Crewe man being more of a sidekick for him, and United’s goal just six minutes from time came from a teasing cross from Miller, with Blackman sliding in at the back post to earn a single point and maintain United’s unbeaten start to the new season.
The first half an hour began with pretty much Danny Wilson’s men dominating and definitely worthy of a lead, but that elusive goal didn’t come in the first-half, although the Blades did come close when McDonald’s effort was cleared off the line.
Coventry’s players were lead off by a chorus of boos from some areas of the ground, but that gave Andy Thorn’s men a kick up the backside, as they put in a more reasonable second-half performance.
Stephen Quinn had the most notable chance of the second period when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he somehow blazed over.
Coventry took the lead through Stephen Eliott, after capitalising on a Neill Collins error, but United would have the final say through Nick Blackman’s close-range finish, and it was a goal he certainly cherished after throwing his shirt on the ground and sliding in front of the jubilant travelling supporters.
