Incredible! Absolutely incredible. 800 Unitedites experienced a mouth-watering fixture at Bristol City this afternoon.
Darius Henderson was Sheffield United's hero in an exhilarating 2:3 victory down at Bristol - he claimed his senior first hat-trick. The striker recorded his 8th, 9th and 10th goals of the campaign which takes him to joint second in the Championship goalscorers' list. Firstly, the travelling contingent were in dreamland when Henderson, a £2 million recruitment from Watford, grabbed a brace in the space of three minutes. He shocked the majority of Ashton Gate on 30 minutes with a strike into Dean Gerken's bottom-corner. The linesman ruled it out for offside, but the referee consulted his official and indicated that the goal stood. Jamie Ward capitalised on McCombe's error and played the ball over to Henderson in the area who rocketed the ball into the roof of the goal. It was 2:0 to the Red and White Wizards at half-time. Carey headed City in their first of the encounter to half the deficit. Kevin Blackwell's men fluffed several chances to restore their two-goal-lead. They were made to pay for their miss-hits and complacency when in the final minute of time added on, Alvaro Saborio drilled in the Robins' second. The Sheffield United fans couldn't believe it. Their side had thrown away a two-goal-advantage - this led to fans heading for the exits. But, they wished they had hung around. The 95 minutes had elapsed, the referee was about to blow his whistle, but thank God he didn't. Darius Henderson, already on a brace, was put through on goal in front of the nervous Unitedites and he squeezed the ball past Gerken into the far-bottom-corner to earn Sheffield United all three points. The Blades fans went crazy, absolutely crazy! This was his 10th of the season, quite impressive! He was mobbed by his team-mates and ran towards the jubilant supporters. 'Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see United win away, hey!' This was repeatedly chanted. The Blades have hopefully turned the corner and are about to stride up the league table. We may have remained 14th, but the play-offs are closer and the win is priceless! The final score from Ashton Gate, is, Bristol City 2:3 Sheffield United.
