The Welsh international striker notched his fourth goal in as many games to keep United amongst the top six in League One as they look to win promotion at the first time of asking. They remain fifth in the table and six points behind second placed unstoppable Huddersfield Town.
There were further positives to note from the game with keeper Steve Simonsen staking his second clean sheet in a row following a 3-0 FA Cup win over Oxford United last Saturday.
Evans fired home in the first half, just 21 minutes into the match after a well worked corner from Lee Williamson was flicked onto the far post with Ched hammering home.
United could have been ahead much earlier when the inspirational Williamson fired from the edge of the area, Adam Collin in the Carlsile goal got an hand to it which then smashed against the woodwork, Cresswell laying in waiting was unable to score as his gymnastic volley flew over the bar with the Cambrians’ defence frantically racing back to defend.
Simonsen had barely been tested all match and following the goal Evans saw two efforts go without reward, he saw his first effort blocked by the defence in the box before firing his free-kick wide at the angle.
At the other end Lee Miller fired marginally wide for the visitors on an unsatisfactory day for their strikers.
On 70th minute the Blades were handed a fantastic opportunity to double the lead when Ryan Flynn was brought down inside the box by former Bristol City full-back Christian Ribeiro. Richard Cresswell stepped up but his weak effort was well saved by Collin.
Miller went close again for the visitors, but the Bramall Lane faithful hung on against final ten minute surge by Carlaisle to win the match 1-0 on a day when it could have been more.
