Sheffield Wednesday are staring relegation to League One in the face following their defeat at Middlesbrough (1-0) last weekend, that result along with a win for Watford left the Owls in the bottom three.
However they were handed a life line when Crystal Palace and Scunthorpe United both failed to pick up points.
Going into the final three fixtures of the season there could be five teams battling against relegation from the Championship; Plymouth Argyle (41 points) and Sheffield Wednesday (45) are already in the drop zone with Peterborough United already relegated.
Crystal Palace (46), whom are in administration and had that ten point deduction are also in trouble of seeing Championship football disappearing whilst Scunthorpe United (47) and Watford (48) are also in the mix.
If a scenario occurs where Wednesday fail to win this weekend and teams above them pick up three points then it could go down to the wire for the last two games of the season.
Though, should our rivals fall into the pit of third tier football then they may well still be looking at a Steel City Derby for the 2010/11 season; however they will have to pray that Rotherham United win promotion!
At the other end of the table, whilst a top six finish looks very unlikely; the Blades will rely on sixth placed Swansea City to slip up for their final three games - they face Barnsley at the Liberty Stadium before travelling to Bramall Lane a week later!
