Under the stewardship of Dean Smith, the Midlands side have, to date, had an enjoyable season so far. They have yo-yoed along with Gillingham and Burton Albion for top spot and currently lay 3rd in the table behind the Gills and local rivals Coventry City.
Due to International call-ups, Walsall saw their game at Shrewsbury Town last weekend postponed and re-arranged for 1 December, leaving them with an extra break and their last competitive action being in the Emirates FA Cup First Round. They earned a 2nd Round tie at Chesterfield after the Reds beat Fleetwood Town by two goals to nil.
Walsall's international trio have returned fit ahead of the visit of Sheffield United. Neil Etheridge, Tom Bradshaw and Romaine Sawyers are available after duty for their countries which saw last week's game with Shrewsbury postponed.
Sam Mantom remains sidelined with a twisted ankle but is closing in on a comeback after missing the last three weeks but defender James O'Connor is fit. The Saddlers are also close to agreeing a loan extension with Manchester City for George Evans with the midfielder's initial deal expiring next week.
