The Blades striker, on loan at South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers, is ineligible to appear at Bramall Lane tomorrow (Saturday).
United, meanwhile, have Jamie Ward sidelined for another month after he damaged his hamstring in the Steel City Derby two weeks ago. In contrast, Gary Naysmith, Sheffield United's experienced left-back, is also injured from an injury he picked up at Burnley last season.
Keith Treacy and Matt Kilgallon are both unlikely to have shrugged off their injuries which they suffered last week at Swansea and at home to Ipswich respectively.
"The very fact that Keith has a chance of playing means that there is no serious damage as was first feared," said Sam Ellis. "And it is probably just jarred or a tweaked nerve.
"However, if he is included in the squad it will be a risk because we don't know if there will be any late reaction. Our physio will decide whether he is to do football training or rehab work which will be the key factor of how we judge him.
"As for Matt Kilgallon's ankle injury, these things can turn one way or another, and we will have to take into account the fact that an International break is around the corner anyway."
