Sheffield United vs. Southend United - Part 1

The Blades lost their opening day campaign at Bolton wanderers (0-1) before being dumped out of the English Football League Cup in Extra-Time by Crewe Alexandra (1-2) at the Lane. They earned their first point of the season at home to Rochdale (1-1) via Billy Sharp's goal, and will look to be on target again as Chris Wilder searches for his first victory as Blades manager.

Sheffield United and Rochdale are still searching for their first wins of the Sky Bet League One season after drawing 1-1 at Bramall Lane. Keith Hill's side looked to be heading for only their second ever win over United when Andy Cannon fired them in front but the hosts' captain Billy Sharp equalised during the closing stages of the first half. Cannon pounced during the closing stages of a scrappy first-half. George Long saved Ian Henderson's 44th-minute shot but the midfielder steadied himself and shot home.

Mark Duffy had earlier gone close for United while Donal McDermott enjoyed several sights of goal at the opposite end of the pitch. But, for the most part, it was pretty tame from both teams. Leon Clarke was inches away from drawing United level in the 65th minute after overpowering his marker to meet Duffy's cross but the ball fell just wide. With eight minutes left, Sharp did manage to equalise. The striker swept home a first-time finish from close range after meeting Chris Hussey's free-kick.

Wilder, who has opted for the same starting XI for three consecutive fixtures may opt to give Harry Chapman his full debut. The 18 year old arrived at Bramall Lane last Friday on a season's long loan from Premiership Middlesbrough and made his debut less than 24 hours later when he appeared off the substitutes bench.
