Last weekend's fixture at Doncaster Rovers was postponed days before kick-off due to a frozen pitch, leaving the Tykes 0-0 draw at home to Watford a fortnight ago their last professional outing.
Under former Rotherham United boss Mark Robins the Reds have surprised the npower Championship and are currently fourteenth in the table and unbeaten in four league matches after victories over Preston North End (2-1), Ipswich Town (3-1) and Portsmouth (1-0).
Like United, the Reds have dipped into the loan market and have brought in; Diego Arsmendi (Stoke City), Keiran Trippier (Manchester City), Paul Hayes (Preston North End), Garry O'Connor (Birmingham City) and Matt Hill (Wolverhampton Wanderers).
Reds boss Robins is likely to name an unchanged team which drew with the Hornets fourteen days ago and will look towards Adam Hammill to find the back of the net; he has done this seven times
already this season.
Nathan Doyle will be in line for a recall after he missed their last game through suspension after the former Burnley defender picked up five bookings.
Meanwhile the Oakwell club will see Martin Davaney and Liam Dickinson available for selection after the pair both returned from their loan spell at League One Walsall recently.
The Tykes can boast two former Sheffield United strikers on their books; Andy Gray and Michael Boulding.
Gray was snapped up from Bradford City in February 2004 and netted on his debut in a 2-1 reverse at Reading - he went onto play 63 (+2) games for United and netted 28 goals before being sold to Sunderland in August 2005.
Boulding joined United under the Neil Warnock era on loan in the 2002-03 campaign from Aston Villa. He made just 4 (+3) appearances and netted once having made his debut in a 2-1 home defeat against Watford.
Expected Eleven: Steele, Hassell, Foster, Shackell, Trippier, O'Brien, Colace, Arismendi, Hammill, Lovre, O'Connor.
