Match Date: 9/7/11, Ground: Coach and Horses, Kick-off: 3:00pm
United's pre-season schedule gets underway this Saturday when Danny Wilson takes his charges to the Coach and Horses ground. New signings Lescinel Jean-Francois and Danny Philliskirk will both make the short trip to Dronfield with their new team mates, the latter however was on loan for the later stages of last season.
United's opponents Sheffield FC are renowned for being the oldest professional football club in the world, having been formed in 1857, and they did in fact used to play their homes games at our very own Bramall Lane.
The club celebrated their 150th anniversary in 2007 with a glamour friendly against Italian giants Inter Milan at the Blades' Bramall Lane ground - with Milan running out 5:2 victors in front of a strong 18,741 crowd.
The Serie A outfit brought a side which included World Cup winner Marco Materazzi and Mario Balotelli (now of Manchester City, of course).
There was a very special guest at the game - none other than Brazilian legend Pele.
Five months later, Sheffield organised another match to be staged at Bramall Lane with Dutch side Ajax, which finalised their celebrations. The game finished 2:0 to the visitors.
Sheffield currently play in the NPL Division One South, seven divisions below the top-flight. The league consists of 22 teams, and Sheffield finished bang slump in the middle in 11th place last season, lagging 24 points behind a play-off place.
The highest attendance in the NPL Division One South for the 2010/2011 campaign was recorded at a Sheffield FC home game - 467 against Loughborough Dynamo, with lowest at Spalding United - only 32 people attended!
