There have only been two previous meetings between United of Sheffield and Town of Crawley, both occurred last season where both fixtures ended in a result of two goals to nil. Our first ever meeting with the club came on 22 December 2012 where the Blades claimed a 2-0 victory. Defender Tony McMahon netted his first goals for the club since his signature from Middlesbrough that summer; he scored two glorious free-kicks on 29 and 72 minutes.
Later on in the season (9 April) the Red Devils extracted revenge on their counterparts by recording a two-nil victory of there own. Former Blades forward Billy Clarke came back to haunt his former club when on 77 minutes he scored the game’s first goal and as the game was drawing to a close (on 84 minutes) Paul Hayes completed the scoring.
On 21 September 2013, Crawley drew 1-1 at Colchester United. The result itself came as no significance but it was the Red Devils 100th Football League fixture, quite a feat considering they was playing non-league football only three years ago.
