The Malta Tourism Authority has kindly agreed to ditch their logo and replace it with a Sheffield Children's Hospital badge. Sheffield Wednesday's shirt sponsor for this and next season is, of course, the Sheffield Children's Hospital. The United players, for Sunday's game only, will match SWFC's sponsor to show both club's admiration for the hospital.
David Vernon-Edwards, Director of The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "To have both Sheffield teams playing with our logo on their shirts gives me an immense feeling of pride. We are fortunate to have one of the leading children's hospital's in the country here in Sheffield and although there will be inevitable rivalry on Derby day I hope supporters take the opportunity to celebrate how fortunate we are to have such a fantastic facility on our doorstep.
"For the charity and the hospital this game is a fitting finale to what has been an exciting season, one in which the game of football has brought heightened awareness of our cause, turned supporters into fundraisers and ultimately brought great benefits to our young patients and their families."
Sheffield United's Group Executive Director, Mike Farnan, commented: "We would like to acknowledge what a fantastic gesture this is from the Malta Tourism Authority. United are very pleased to be able to contribute to such an excellent cause.
"The co-operation with Wednesday is a testament to the importance of the hospital to the whole of Sheffield. The Blades' derby shirts initiative will mark the first in a series of fundraising activities for the hospital that will be supported by Sheffield United."
Finally, Alex Incorvaja, Director - UK & Ireland, from the Malta Tourism Authority, said: "As the official club sponsor of Sheffield United, we continue to look at ways of supporting the local community. We hope that handing over our shirt branding for one of the most high profile occasions on the Football League calendar will contribute to giving this children's hospital the recognition and support they deserve."
The actual shirts worn by the Wednesday and United players will be signed by both sets of players and auctioned off.
