Bury vs. Sheffield United (Part 1)

Sheffield United's recent home form has raised questions with the supporters as to the clubs' chances in gaining promotion out of League One. But whilst results at Bramall Lane have failed to lift spirits their away form has been excellent, having not lost away since 31 October (at Crewe), the Blades have gone seven league games without defeat and following their 1-0 win at Doncaster last Saturday they are just five points away from the play-offs in tenth position.

Sheffield United bounced back to form with a hard fought 1-0 South Yorkshire derby victory over Doncaster. The Blades were by far the best side in the first half but had some anxious moments when Rovers tried to hit back after the interval. United adapted better to the blustery conditions and twice went close in the early stages, when Jose Baxter had a close-range effort tipped over the top before Neill Collins headed against the bar following a corner.

Andy Williams had a goal bound effort blocked and a header cleared off the line when Rovers rallied before United snatched the lead in the 42nd minute. Che Adams latched onto a splendid through-ball from Baxter and was given time and space by the sluggish home defence to fire home from close range. Doncaster improved after the interval, with Williams inches away from converting a superb cross from Cameron Stewart with the goal at his mercy in the 57th minute.

Stewart dribbled through to have a swerving shot saved but the Blades held out resolutely to clinch a deserved first win in four games, leaving the home side without a win in six.

Blades boss Nigel Adkins is hoping several unnamed players overcome various knocks in time to feature. Defender Bob Harris could be in contention after playing for the Under-21s last week. He has struggled to recover full fitness since sustaining concussion in the FA Cup win against Oldham in early December. Versatile Kieran Wallace also returned to full training last week, but midfielder Stefan Scougall remains side-lined due to a knee injury.

14 Goal striker Billy Sharp is likely to remain side-lined with a foot injury. Having named youngsters Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Louis Reed and Che Adams in the starting XI at the Keepmoat Adkins may include these starlets again tonight.
