Birmingham (2nd), Sheffield United (3rd) and Reading (4th) all have the opportunity to join Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League next season. The Blues have faltered lately with the Blades and the Royals getting back on track after defeats.
Birmingham and Reading:
Current form guides: | P | W | D | L | F | A | P |
Reading | 6 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 6 | 3 | 9 |
Birmingham C. | 6 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 6 | 4 | 9 |
Both the Midlands and the Berkshire outfits overall have been struggling towards the close of the season. Birmingham could have clinched fast-track promotion last Saturday but two late goals from Paul McKenna and Ross Wallace denied Alex McLeish's men. Steve Coppell has given his Reading troops a big kick up the backside leading into the final few games. Two wins and two draws out of the last four games sees Reading hang in there with one game to go, and their last defeat was to the Blades on Good Friday.
Sheffield United:
Current form guides: | P | W | D | L | F | A | P |
Crystal Palace | 6 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 6 | 5 |
Sheff. Utd. | 6 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 2 | 13 |
The Blades have only lost one game in their last 13 outings, and that was the previous away encounter. United did have a superb record of being unbeaten away from home, but it was spoiled by Burnley. Kevin Blackwell's troops have been defeated only three times in the last 24 matches.
