Beattie is set to be out for 4-6 weeks so the fight for a starting place in the striking area is tough. New recruit Darius Henderson is poised to start the game at St.Andrews alongside Danny Webber who has been on hot form in pre-season.
Keith Gillespie is out due to ankle ligament damage which he picked up in the pre-season encounter against Bury. Blackwell has confirmed that he has informed the players on whom is in the starting eleven.
"Everybody is fit and available apart from James Beattie and Keith Gillespie so there is almost a full squad to choose from. In fact, I felt that we were ready to start the campaign about a week ago and we have been holding them back," said Blackwell.
"I have told the lads the team and indicated to them that I wouldn't want to be one of the ones left out because of the competition we have - it might take a long time to win a place back.
"But the challenge is theirs to work hard and take their chance when it comes round. Obviously, there was some disappointment amongst those not in the starting group, but they were congratulating those that were in - they respect each other and are a tight group."
Meanwhile in the Birmingham camp defender Radhi Jaidi is back in contention for a starting place. After picking up a tight hamstring the Blues defender could make an appearance. New signing Quincy won't feature for the Midland outfit.
