Wilder was recently linked with the vacant managerial position at Charlton Athletic following their relegation into League One. But news has speculated today that talks between the Addickts and Wilder have broken down. He has now been linked with the hot seat at Bramall Lane, quashing yesterday's rumours with Turkish national Ersun Yanal taking charge in the summer.
Wilder enjoyed his own success with his current club Northampton Town, guiding them into League One after being crowned Champions, as a player he enjoyed two spells in S2 during the 1980's and 90's as well as playing over 100 times for Rotherham United.
A statement from Charlton read: "Charlton Athletic can confirm that, following discussions with Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill over the vacant managerial role at The Valley, the club has been unable to reach an agreement. The club will now continue its search for a candidate to take the club forward. Any further announcements will be made in due course."
Cobblers chairman Kelvin Thomas has also released a statement regarding Wilder's future; "We understand there is further interest in Chris and Alan, however we have had no official approach at this point but I will be sitting down with Chris to discuss further," he said. "As we said on Monday and in the best interests of the club, we are keen for this matter to be brought to a conclusion as quickly as possible."
