Lucketti, 35 has become out of favour at Bramall Lane since they won promotion to the Premiership and invested in new players such as David Sommeil and Claude Davis.
Yorkshire rivals Leeds United wanted to take Lucketti on loan until the January transfer window re-opened but the Blades refused the offer; a similar offer was made also from the Oakwell club but this too was turned down.
Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie told barnsleyfc.co.uk: "We tried to get Chris Lucketti from Sheffield United, but we were told that he did not want to come at the moment.
"We need an experienced player like him and we tried to sign him during the summer, but we could not match his financial demands."
