Everton remain the favourites to land the former Bury forward who has netted 15 goals to date this season. However clubs from the Premiership are keeping tabs on the 21 year old Liverpool born striker whilst Nugent would rather play in the top flight with the Deepdale club.
Sheffield United attempted to land the striker during the last transfer window but were priced out of a deal but hopes that come July United will be in a better position to offer a better deal.
"He only wants to play in the Premiership. He wants to see Preston in the Premiership, like we all do. Said Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw.
"We only hope we can get to the Premiership and renew his contract in the summer."
