Adam Le Fondre during his loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers last season.
Sheffield United have already signed goalkeeper Simon Moore from the Welsh side, who has already made his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Millwall last weekend, and is likely to be included in today's fixture at home to Oxford United.
Le Fondre, 29 is unwanted by Cardiff City, with reports suggesting he has been made to train with the youth teams.
He hasn't appeared in a City shirt since January 2015 when they lost 3-2 at Norwich City, and could make a long awaited exit and join Sheffield United initially on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January.
The summer transfer window will close at 11:00PM on Wednesday, 31st August 2016.
As well as the Molineux club, he lists Stockport County, Rochdale, Rotherham United, Reading and Bolton Wanderers (loan) as his former clubs.
