The one time capped player for Ireland has joined the race to sign Doyle, along with Reading after he fell out with the Sky Blues with the arrival of new boss Iain Dowie unlikely to change his circumstances.
Doyle, 25 handed in a transfer request after being left out of the side that faced Leicester City but has been recalled afainst Southampton this weekend with the new manager in charge.
It is thought that a mere £500,000 would be enough to secure the services of Doyle - he has become disillusioned after the training ground bust up with former Blades Defender Robert Page. Page has since apologised but Doyle is unhappy on how the club handled the situation.
Doyle said last month: "They didn't back me and it is very hard to accept that, I didn't want anyone sacked, I didn't want the police involved or anything like that but at the same time I don't think it's right that it just gets brushed under the carpet or for the club to hope that everyone forgets about it.
"I am getting up in the morning, looking in the mirror and, now, there's no teeth there through no fault of my own. I have nothing to hide.
"After it happened, I had some time off and I spoke to my family and people around me.
"I thought it was best that I got a fresh start because it would be hard for me to look people in the eye after what happened and the way that things were handled."
