van Veen, 23 has been targeted by both the Blades and Scunthorpe United (according to Voetbal International) as both sides look to recruit a new striker and the League One pair have stepped up their interest in signing the Eindhoven born forward before the transfer deadline ends this month.
United have recently been scuppered with a move for Dundee United forward Gary Mackay-Stevens who has now agreed a pre-contract with Celtic whilst news have blow flat on Chesterfield hot shot Eoin Doyle. Meanwhile it is still believed that Blades boss Nigel Clough is still in the hunt for Brighton striker Chris O'Grady who recently enjoyed a loan spell at Bramall Lane.
However a move for the Dutch forward may see a stumbling block. Despite being out of contract at the end of the season the Dutch Second Division club are seeking a £300,000 fee for there striker who has netted 13 goals in 18 appearances this season.
