Wood, 23 has just one year left on his current Hillsborough contract and at present isn't keen on staying with the S6 club, and despite being a long life fan he saw a transfer request denied by the Owls last September.
The Wakefield born centre-half featured for the Owls in their double over United this season; he also played against the Blades in their 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane - the visitors had taken a two goal lead via Adam Bolder (39 & 56 minutes) before Wood (62) stuck through his own net and James Beattie (85) curled in a free-kick with moments left.
Should Wood make the very short trip to S2 he would team up with former Owls Leigh Bromby and Derek Geary; both also defenders.
