A club insider speaking in The Sun said: "The timing was awful. The players were on the floor after a narrow defeat in a huge game and were amazed at his attitude. Kevin told them that loads of them would be getting the bullet to trim costs because they face a third season in the Championship. It hasn't gone down well.
"He might as well have been reading the local traffic news instead of talking to some pretty disappointed players who had given everything."
Rumours spreading around on internet are suggesting that the 50-year-old will resign in the next couple of days, and Gary Speed will be installed as manager. These rumours also suggest that there will be a press conference in the next few days to confirm Blackwell's resignation.
Although The Sheffield Star are indicating that he could stay on, after talks with Kevin McCabe and that the chairman would be pleased if he committed himself to the club.
The Mirror say that Blackwell could be the next manager of Queens Park Rangers if he does say goodbye to the Blades. Rangers of course only have a caretaker manager at the helm at the moment.
