Delboy, who has been with the Blades for almost six seasons, has been dealt a huge blow in his road back to full recovery when receiving results from a recent scan. The upset 29-year-old asked his gaffer, Kevin Blackwell, why me? Kevin Blackwell feels for the lad, and here he starts off by praising his determination and willingness to recover from the serious knee injury he sustained two years ago:
"I hope he makes yet another return because the injury he had with his knee has finished many, many players, but his tenacity and his desire to get back is overwhelming, really. "To speak to him on Tuesday morning was heartbreaking, and it was rather moving to be honest. He's a lad who has given everything. He said to me, 'why me, gaffer'? I said 'I can't tell you, Del, but if anyone can comeback, you can'." "He's down in London today (Thursday) with the specialists, and if the surgeon can do something today, he'll do it today, but if not he'll have to wait until next week. It's a savage and cruel blow to a player who deserves a break. "I'd put my money on Delboy to come back. He's been a quiet boy over the last two years because it's been a tough time for him, but there's no doubt when he's lively, we're lively. "He's been concentrating on getting his career back on track for the past two years after such a serious injury, so the focus for him has been about his career. Maybe, just maybe, with the situation, we might have overplayed him." The best of luck, Delboy, with yet another rehabilitation. The image used on this article is copyright to Action Images
