Cotts will be part of the Blades' revival after May's disappointment and will be kept on his toes this time around with added competition to the squad. Kevin Blackwell, as it stands, has shipped in one winger (Kyel Reid) and two are currently on trial, both believed to be going smoothly.
Cotterill, United's regular penalty taker after the departure of James Beattie, had a 100% record from the spot after dispatching spot-kicks past Birmingham, Blackpool, Cardiff and Swansea. The 21-year-old was also at the top of the assist list for the club with 9 in all competitions.
He said: "My main aim is to cement the right wing slot. It took until Christmas to get going last season and that was too long - I really need to be flying from the first day to help the boys.
"I've set myself a couple of targets - they are high but you have got to be positive. I want to chip in with as many goals as possible, I'd love to get into double figures and if I can get to 15 assists for the season I will be happy.
"For the last few games I had a bit of a niggling groin, which finally forced me off in the play-off final."I missed an international game for Wales straight after that but all I needed was to rest it and fortunately I've come back for pre-season in decent shape.
"The Gaffer has brought in a few wingers, a couple on trial, and competition for places now is very tough, but good. You need to push yourself and because if you are too comfortable you go backwards. With Glen (Little) and the other lads here it can only help."
