The former Blackburn striker concedes that his career at Bradford and so far at Sheffield United have been plagued by injury's and has been unable to play on a regular basis.
His latest knee injury had kept him out of the first team frame for two months which had frustrated both Ward and the fans. But since his recover played over 90 minutes and capped his re-appearance with a goal against Millwall.
"It's great to be playing again, and although the goals aren't flowing as often as I would like, it was great to be back on the scoresheet," said Ward. "Scoring goals breeds confidence because no matter how good you think you are, if you are not scoring it erodes it. Hopefully now I've got that one there will be some more to follow.
"But it's been very frustrating for me over the last few years with all the injuries. I can't begin to mention all the things I've had, but you get periods like that. I did go through a great spell in my career without picking up any injuries, then all of a sudden they've come.
"Because of the injury problems, people have not seen the best of me for a while. I want a good run, staying clear of injuries, which is the key and once I do that I will start to enjoy the game more and people will see more from me."
