Michael Brown of Wigan Athletic and Adam Johnson who currently plays for Middlesbrough have been strongly linked with a transfer to the Lane. But injuries and other problems at their respective clubs have slowed down the rumoured moves to Sheffield.
How do we know it is Brown and Johnson who are Kevin Blackwell's targets. In an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield he said: "It is understandable that managers do not want to let players out until they are certain that their International players return injury free. I am in the same boat with some of my own lads whom other managers have enquired about, and am very reluctant to let them out this week.
"There will be no decision this week on our players, because I have two players coming back from International duty on Friday and need to see how they are. They tell me that they are OK but I want to asses them in the morning.
"I am in talks with one or two clubs about bringing someone in but I am not prepared to say which. If I have to wait longer so be it, because it has to be someone who will improve us and be better than Michael Tonge, otherwise there was no point in letting him go."
