Speed, a Premier League veteran, hasn't fully confirmed his retirement from his highly successful playing career and instead offers his helping hand to Kevin Blackwell in the dugout every matchday.
The 40-year-old rejected an offer from Swansea City in June to become their new boss. There was also reports that Swindon Town were lining him up to become their new manager.
Speed said: "I have had offers but I think will stick around because I know just how lucky I am here. In fact, I would be happy to stay for a long time because I am learning such a lot.
"I am only 40-years-old so there is plenty of time for me to become a manager eventually. I am enjoying coaching and every day there are new challenges for me, new things to deal with every day, so much so that I haven't even missed playing so far.
"Kevin Blackwell is so experienced now that he can get us through this tricky period and the staff and players are all behind him."
