Sheffield United boss Gary Speed admits it was not an easy decision to replace Kevin Blackwell at Bramall Lane. Blackwell handed Speed a coaching role with the Blades and the Welshman was appointed his successor last week. "I'd like to have taken over in different circumstances," Speed told the Football League Podcast. "Kevin did ever so well for me as a coach and I've got a lot to thank him for and it was very unfortunate and everyone was disappointed when he went. "When I got offered the job I told him what was happening and he was great. We had an honest relationship and everything was out in the open. But it was a difficult situation. "Once I got offered the job, you don`t get an opportunity like that often, so I had to take it and he was completely behind me."
