Short had opted to retire and settle down to his hobby of boats in the lake district. He had been at the club only 12 months, helping the Blades to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Despite his insistency in retirement, playing his last game against Crystal Palace in a 1-0 win it seems as though Neil Warnock may have changed his decision.
"I think he will," replied Warnock when asked about the possibility on Sky Sports News.
"I have pestered him and pestered him, and the players have as well.
"We think Craig can do a job for us next season. I am sure he will be very useful. You only have to look at some of the Premiership centre backs from last season.
"So hopefully in the next few weeks he will put pen to paper on a one-year contract."
