Action was taken to make the field more stronger and hard-wearing and fewer divots. New stands and work at Bramall Lane have made air and light hard to be inserted into the stadium.
10mm of grass has been skimmed and the surface has been reseeded with rye grass. 40 tonnes of sand has been used to bury the seed. Groundsman Glenn Nortcliffe said:"It has been five weeks since we seeded and we are pleased with the results so far. We have a covering of grass but it is still very young, over the next five weeks it will benefit us in the winter months."
"We have been experimenting with grow lights and hopefully they will provide to be beneficial."
The pitch will be in good condition for the first home game of the season against Port Vale in the League Cup. The Championship's first game at the Lane will be against Queens Park Rangers.
