O'Driscoll rumours false

2901232Various areas of the press have said that O'Driscoll had agreed to take over as the Blades boss, but Doncaster have rubbished those rumours by releasing a statement today (Thursday).

It read: 'Contrary to reports in the national press this morning Doncaster Rovers Football Club would like to confirm that Sean O'Driscoll has not accepted the post of manager at Sheffield United.

O'Driscoll has distanced himself from media speculation linking him with the post stating, "I am not part of the process of Sheffield United appointing a new manager. All the speculation that has surrounded this over the past week is extremely unhelpful and disruptive to the players and staff at both football clubs and is very unwelcome."

O'Driscoll was allegedly at the pinnacle of United's candidates list, but the Blades may have to look elsewhere.

Micky Adams has been in talks and remains a strong contender, as does current caretaker manager John Carver.

Carver will take charge of the remaining games in 2010, as was confirmed by the club earlier this week.

A 1:0 home victory over high-flying Swansea City last week did his cause no harm at all, and another couple of victories could really make Trevor Birch and Co sit up and rethink their plans.

Brentford's Andy Scott has also been linked with the vacancy. Scott appeared 75 times as a player for the Blades.
