2010/2011: The departure of boss Alan Knill, who joined soon-to-be-relegated Scunthorpe United at the end of March, didn't hamper the Shakers' outstanding League Two campaign. Sheffielder Richie Barker was put in temporary charge, leading the Greater Manchester side to six consecutive wins, including a victory over table-topping Chesterfield - promotion to League One was gained after they finished second, behind the Derbyshire club.

How will they fair this season? I predict the Shakers will follow in the footsteps of rivals Rochdale and go on to have a very strong opening campaign in the third tier after being promoted from League Two. If star man Ryan Lowe, who pledged his future to the club this week, can produce the goals yet again, there's no reason why they can't finish in a decent position.

Blades Mad's 2011/2012 predicted finish: 10th

Best odds for promotion: 20/1

Star player: Ryan Lowe
