The on loan Blackburn man has come under some destructive criticism lately after a few 25-yard efforts have flew past the 24-year-old. Mark is in his first season as a club's number one, emphasises Blackwell.

Usual shot-stopper Paddy Kenny is attending a disiplinary hearing today at Wembley Stadium at the FA's headquarters as he is appealing for his ban to be cut down.

On the goalkeeper situation, Blackwell, a former goalkeeper said: "People need to remember that this is Mark's first run of games at this level and overall he has done well.

"But Paddy is 31 and very experienced, whilst Mark is 24 and still learning what it is like in the Championship every week.

"He is doing that at a time when we have been very disrupted at the back and, to be fair, some very good goals have been scored against him."

Blackwell is contemplating a journey down to the capital to attend Paddy Kenny's hearing today, and then dashing back up to Blackpool to see his side entertain the Seasiders tonight.

He told The Star: "If I have to go (to Paddy's hearing at London) then I will go. I'll be speaking to the people who are definitely going to be there to find out what they think is best."
