The £4m man from Everton has bagged 21 goals so far this season but he wants to get top spot in the goalscorers list and beat former Southampton strike partner Kevin Phillips now of West Brom to the top.
"I am good friends with Kev and we formed an excellent partnership at Southampton. I look back at that time fondly and have the utmost respect for him."
"It has been in the back of my mind since I came here in the summer. I knew I would be there or thereabouts and despite my injury I am still up there.
"I am delighted to be banging in the goals since my injury although, apart from that spell after Christmas, I have been doing that all season."
Beattie went on to comment about the clubs great run.
He said:"It is good to be winning, with the team playing very well. We have three games left and you never know what can happen, especially in this division where it is so hard to predict.
"It is great at the moment; everyone around the club is bubbling both on and off the pitch, whilst the spirit has changed totally, so credit to everyone connected to the club."
