Jagielka has been impressive this season, though other United fans may argue poor Nick Montgomery has equally been as dominant in Midfield without receiving accolade.
"It's a massive honour and a massive surprise considering the players like Steve Sidwell and Andy Johnson who could have won it. Said Jagielka.
"I got this award because of the fantastic season we've had and the confidence of all the squad."
Jagielka added: "The gaffer will give me some banter. He nurtured me and will probably take all the plaudits.
"We're champing at the bit to play in the Premiership so we're desperate to keep hold of second place and get automatic promotion."
Meanwhile Coventry City veteran Dennis Wise has piped Sheffield United Midfielder and Leeds United's American Winger Eddie Lewis to Championship 'Player of the Month' for February 2006.
