Henderson has struggled to find his feet in a team at the wrong end of the table since his return from a serious hamstring injury in March and has taken some flak from a section of Blades fans as the club have fought a long battle against relegation.
But the 29-year-old, made captain by manager Micky Adams, struck twice in Monday's 3-2 win at Reading, where the Blades fought back from 2-0 down to extend their stay in the Championship.
Henderson said: "In terms of my personal performances I've had to be patient, having been out for 11 months.
"On top of that I only trained twice before my comeback at Watford which obviously didn't go to plan and I've missed chances since returning from suspension.
"I always knew if the chances kept coming I could get myself in the right positions and luckily we managed to get the three points, which was the main goal in keeping alive our hopes of staying up."
