2012 started and ended with miserable defeats, both ending ironically 3-2. Firstly, on New Years Day Carlisle United got the better of us at Brunton Park and only a few days ago United lost there prestigious home league record, losing to Hartlepool United who are bottom of the League One table.
In April United lost to rivals Sheffield Wednesday by a single goal at Hillsborough before the Owls won every game remaining in the season to pip the Blades to automatic promotion. Soon after they lost star striker Ched Evans after he was convicted of rape.
United succumbed to the play-offs and with James Beattie being sent off in a 2-2 draw at Exeter City on the final day adding to an injury to Richard Cresswell left only Chris Porter as there only fit and available first choice striker heading into the play-off fixtures. United were able to get past Stevenage in the semis but lost out (again) at Wembley to Huddersfield Town on penalties.
Overall it hasn't been the brightest year for United but with Danny Wilson at the helm I am sure that this new year will bring back the smiles come May.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL BLADES FANS ACROSS THE GLOBE
