Emmanuel Osadebe played almost 90 minutes as Gillingham beat Sheffield United by four goals to nil on the opening day of the season, in what was Nigel Adkins first competitive fixture as manager of the Blades.
The player in question was signed 24 hours prior to the game from Tottenham Hotspur but a disciplinary commission ruled last Thursday that his registration should have been completed through International clearance rather than a domestic clearance because his registration actually belongs to Irish club Dundalk. As a result the Priestfield Stadium club have been fined £4,000 - suspended for 12 months.
A spokesperson for Sheffield United said; "The unusual circumstances make it a delicate situation, which no doubt, the Football League, Football Association and Gillingham discussed at length before the Football Disciplinary Commission arrived at Thursday's outcome."
