Neil Warnock was very close to signing for Portsmouth but decided on a U turn and remained manager of Sheffield United - a club he has support as a boy.
McCabe has admitted that the type of contract offered will depend on the state of the clubs position in February when talks will begin, ideally he will be offered a Premiership contact as that's were we hope that club will be heading.
We have a great association. He's our manager, a great manager but the time is not appropriate to talk yet,"
"If, by the end of February, we know or we are confident we will be in the Premiership we will discuss a Premiership contract and if not we will talk about a Championship contract." McCabe told sufc.co.uk.
Meanwhile talks will begin with the Blades oldest serving member of the club, full-back Robert Kozluk. Aged 28 and served the club for 6 and a half years the former Derby County man is keen to tie up a new deal.
"I'll be talking to Koz and one or two others whose contracts are coming to an end and feel they need a bit of security," Neil Warnock said.
Warnock also admitted he is unaffected by the fact a number of players remain transfer-listed, instead insisting the club does not need to sell as they bid to remain on course for promotion to the Premiership.
"It doesn't bother me that any of the players are on the transfer list," he added on the club's official website. "In a sense, everyone is available for transfer at any time but United are not the selling club we once were."
