The Blades forward, who scored 15 goals for Rovers in his loan spell at the Keepmoat last season, has proved he can cut it in the Championship. His successful stint at Doncaster has persuaded Sean O'Driscoll and Donny chairman John Ryan to break the bank and table a club record offer, but that wasn't enough to lure the 24-year-old away from Bramall Lane, it was revealed today.
There are allegations that Sharp and Blades boss Kevin Blackwell had a bust-up and refuse to make up. If these allegations are true, a move away from his boyhood club could be very soon.
John Ryan, Doncaster Rovers' chairman, said: "I'm disappointed. We will have to wait and see what happens.
"All we can do is make offers. It was certainly the biggest bid Doncaster Rovers have made for a player."
Ryan went on to give us more clues to whether they will be lodging an improved bid. He continued: "Not at this stage, no. I think we pushed the boat out a bit with that offer.
"It was a very substantial offer, so we'll have to regroup and see what happens with the rest of the summer."
