The club today (Monday) released their leaving list after coming to decisions on several players. Players who have played their last game in a Blades shirt include: James Harper, Glen Little, Derek Geary, Ian Bennett, Henri Camara, Jonathan Fortune, Justin Haber and academy duo Liban Abdi and Sam Wedgbury.
James Harper hasn't lived up to expectations, Ian Bennett is now concentrating on coaching, Henri Camara's injuries and wages proved to be a problem, Jonathan Fortune has been unfit for the majority of the season, goalkeeper Justin Haber will stay with sister club Ferencvaros and Abdi and Wedgbury are released.
Derek Geary's illustrious Blades career has come to an unfortunate end. An injury sustained almost two years ago has hampered him for the most of his comeback season, and then he suffered more misery in the away fixture at Nottingham Forest. Glen Little has to be United's most influential player towards the end of the season and produced some neat football and became a fans' favourite. It's kind of disappointing not to extend either Derek's or Glen's contracts, but it's understandable why the club haven't. Delboy's injury problems causes disruption, whilst Blakey's age and fitness is against him. Thanks for your time at the club, Delboy, and the best of luck on your road to rehabilitation.
Kevin Blackwell said: "I would like to thank all of them for what they have given Sheffield United and hope that they soon find other clubs.
"It is always sad to see long serving players leave, particularly when they have served us well, but we are rebuilding a squad that we hope will equip us for a promotion challenge and this will give us some leeway towards bringing others in."
The club also updates us that negotiations with Gary Naysmith and Nick Montgomery are ongoing.
