The England U21 international has supposedly had top flight clubs sniffing around him as he proved to be one of the Blades' prize assets in the 2008/09 campaign. Manager Kevin Blackwell gave Kyle the opportunity to show off his abilities at the top of the previous season, and has barely put a foot wrong in an auspicious outing.

"To an extent you are always surprised when somebody comes right through the ranks these days, but he was always the one I felt I could we could unearth", said Kevin Blackwell.

"He excited me from pre-season when he came in and performed at terrific level but then he went on and I thought he was arguably the best player in the Championship from October to January.

"His form took a dip around the time of the FA Cup matches in January but he came back again and finished so strongly." Kyle was of course named in the PFA Championship team of the Year. Blackie was delighted but at the same time surprised that Naughton transcended.

He finished: "To get into the Team of the Year and to be in the Play-off Final programme's 'One To Watch' along with everything else he achieved did surprise me slightly."
