This is according to local newspaper The Sheffield Star who report on both the Blades and the Owls.
Last season’s beaten Play-Off Finalists Sheffield Wednesday will no doubt be looking to go one better when they face Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town in the Championship Play-Offs (semi-finals), and the winner will meet either Fulham or Reading in a showcase final at Wembley.
Like United, the Blue and White know all about losing at Wembley as Hull City's Diame slammed an unstoppable screamer from distance, and was enough to win the game for the Tigers. This was almost 12 months ago and with Blades supporters having enjoyed League One success this season, believe that they should cheer on their city-counterparts.
Whilst I wouldn't wish them any form of 'bad luck' in the Play-Offs, I personally wouldn't want to wish them any form of 'good luck' either (or indeed their opposition too).
The Star believes that the Blades would benefit from the Owls success, and in them reaching the Premier League for the first time in 17 years would spur on the SUFC board to invest highly to catch them up.
In my opinion Sheffield is a massive City with two Football Clubs who could, in terms of passion and support, both hold their own against any other Premiership clubs. Whilst attendances don't win you matches (or promotion), both Bramall Lane and Hillsborough sweeps aside the majority of stadia in the top two Divisions.
Sheffield deserves a football city, boasting two Premiership sides but this has to be done on merit, and United's ambitions won't (and shouldn't) be dependent on whether SWFC win promotion or not.
Whilst it isn't sour grapes, supporters should remind themselves of the barely non-existence good luck messages that United received during their play-off conquests. None more than particular than 2012 as they were leaping for joy as Simonsen blasted his penalty sky high over the bar. I believe NASA are still searching for it, but this came only weeks after the Owls had piped the Blades to automatic promotion.
