Burley, signing for Unibond side Trinity in August 2003 after spending his previous time in Sheffield with Stocksbridge Park Steels.
The Midfielder came through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane during 2000/01 season, but didn't quite make the grade with the likes of Michael Tonge and Phil Jagielka as competition.
He played just six games for United under manager Neil Warnock, in all coming off the substitutes bench against Shresbury home and away in the League Cup and against Crystal Palace and Swindon Town at home in the league. The game against Town on the last day of the season saw the Blades draw 2-2, along with Wayne Quinn Burley grabbed his first goal for the club.
The following season he played in both League and Cup away fixtures against Lincoln City and Birmingham City which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
