The cause is to raise funds for the hundredes of thousands people affected in the recent earthquake which occurred last month. Chelsea who are going to be currently on a tour of China in July have kindly agreed to play the friendly match at the Macau National Stadium.
The Blues Chief Executive Peter Kenyon and the Blades new Executive Michael Farnan have had lenghty chats and both have come to an agreement. Kenyon and Farnan are good friends so it was more easily to arrange the fixture.
Some of the Sheffield United players will make a special appearance on the 26th July. Blades chairman Kevin McCabe said:"The Chengdu Blades are part of the Sheffield United family and we are determind to help as much as we can the communities who are still struggling to come to terms with the impact of the earthquake.
"All our fees will be going to the appeal and we hope that the people of Macau and the tourists in the province will flock to the game to see Chengdu take on one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are delighted Chelsea, who are on tour of China during July, have kindly agreed to back our efforts to raise funds for the appeal.
Peter Kenyon said:"We did look at playing a game in Chengdu, and now for very obvious and tragic reasons, that will not be possible. But we are delighted to assist in raising awareness for the earthquake relief effort as well as having excellent opposition to help prepare for the new season."
Around 80,000 people died in the disaster.
