Sharp, 23-years-of-age, returned to Bramall Lane for a fee of £2.5m after moving to Glanford Park for a couple of years. He was on hot form for the Irons at the time when he bagged 53 goals in 82 appearances but unfortunately, his goalscoring form for the red and white wizards has been nowhere near as prolific.

Kevin Blackwell is eyeing at least another one striker before the season begins on the 7th August, live in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Middlesbrough, and knows that clubs are interested in Billy's services.

He said: "Billy is on the list and a lot of people are speculating, but at the moment he's still a United player."

On Monday, it emerged that Doncaster Rovers had expressed their interest in the Blades' academy graduate, but United are reluctant to get at least a reasonable part of the £2.5m back, which could sway clubs away.
