The Blades overwhelmed the Hammers with an impounding 3-0 victory at Bramall Lane to aid in there struggle to retain their Premiership status.
The game looked a tense affair, and the visitors hearts sunk when Michael Tonge unleashed a spectacular free-kick 20 yards away from goal. It rose high before beating keeper Robert Green, crashing against the bar and down into the back of the net.
At 1-0 the Hammers came close to an equaliser, Lucas Neill driving hard and low for Kenny to produce an unbelievable save after Carlos Tevez put the Australian through.
Unfortunately for the 2,500+ visiting supporters that was all they had to offer all afternoon. United doubled their lead in the second half, Phil Jagielka heading home a Keith Gillespie corner.
From their on there was only going to be one winner, and the Blades looked like scoring every time they pushed forward.
And, with twelve minutes remaining the Cutlers did just that; Jonathan Stead looked helpless down the right hand side, he cut in, twisted and turned past Anton Ferdinand before unleashing a awesome left foot shot past Green and into the Kop end goal.
The win put the Blades five points clear of the Hammers and two points ahead of relegation rivals Charlton Athletic who go to Goodison Park today.
Athletic go to Liverpool to take on Everton, presumably this game was moved because of the Grand National at Aintree yesterday as it isn't on live television. Blades fans will be praying for a home win or at most a draw, a away win would lift the Addicks out of the mire and put the Blades back into the bottom three.
United fans will also be looked for an away win for Tottenham Hotspur who travel to Wigan Athletic this afternoon. Only goal difference separates the Latics and the Blades. Spurs would need at least a two goal marginal win for the Blades to move up a place.
The game at Goodison Park kicks off at 3:00pm GMT whilst the match at the JJB Stadium commences at 1:30pm GMT, this match is on live television.
