It was rumoured that the Blades were about to sign the former Rotherham United striker but any hopes of signing Goater were dashed as the Bermudan International signed for Reading for £500,000.
Recently Ward has been rumoured to be on his way to old club Derby County but since then reports suggest Neil Warnock his going to try and bring the striker to Bramall Lane.
He started his career in Lancashire with Manchester City before joining Lester City, in between then he was on loan at Wrexham. Having made just 2 appearances in the space of a year Ward was transferred to Crewe Alexandra, even a loan spell at Blackpool didn't do him any good.
From Gresty Road the striker was sold to Norwich City for nothing in December 1994 and just as Derby County were due to be promoted to Premier League in 1996 Ward then moved to Baseball Ground for £1,000,000.
However just before the Rams were due to play their new Pride Park stadium he was sold to Barnsley where he made 45 league appearances and scored 20 goals. Blackburn Rovers then took him back to Lancashire for a ridicules fee of £4.5 million, not surprising when Rovers spent £25 million in pre-season and were still relegated from Premiership.
Having failed at Ewood Park the Manchester born attacker was bought by Bradford City when they were in Premier League for £1,500,000 three years ago, and to this day he has made 75 league appearances and netted 17 times for the Bantams.
