Northampton Town could be the first team in the Football League to win promotion this season, if they beat third placed Bristol Rovers at Sixfields tomorrow. A point would be enough to secure a place in League One if both Plymouth Argyle (vs. AFC Wimbledon) and Accrington (at Luton) fail to claim maximum points from their fixtures.
Aston Villa could be expelled from the Premier League if they fail to beat newcomers AFC Bournemouth at Villa Park tomorrow, ending their 28 year affiliation with top flight football. They defeated the Cherries on the opening day of the season but since then the two clubs have taken very different directions with the South Coast club all but safe from the doom and gloom of the relegation hot zone.
Villa's demise will not affect Sheffield United for the 2016-17 season, unless the Blades achieve the impossible in reaching the top six before winning promotion via the play-offs.
Bolton's fate will be rubber stamped if they fail to win anything less than 3 points in their Championship fixture at Derby County, though a point or more for Rotherham United (at MK Dons) would cast the Trotters result as pointless and will be relegated regardless.
Crewe Alexandra could be the first team relegation from League One if they too fail in their mission to win this weekend's fixture. The Alex are at Port Vale tomorrow, where anything but a victory will see them play basement tier football next season.
